Project ID: PN-IV-P8-8.3-PM-RO-BE-2024-0032
Projector leader: Madalina Hrubaru
Project type: National Funding
Project program: Research projects to increase the scientific cooperation between Romania and partner countries – ROBE2024
Funded by: Unit Executive for Funding Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation
Contractor: "Costin D. Nenitescu" Institute of Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry, Romanian Academy
Start date: 19 November 2024
End date: 31 December 2025
Project abstract: The SIACOM project aims to synthesize and characterize transition metal complexes with new carbenic or zwitterionic ligands and evaluate their catalytic potential in olefin metathesis and in other carbon-carbon bond formation reactions, as well as testing their biological activity as antioxidant, anticancer agents, antimicrobials or antifungals. The first objective will consist in synthesizing new carbenic ligands from azolium salts alkylated in the C2 position and their ruthenium-arene and ruthenium-alkylidene complexes whose catalytic activity will be evaluated in the metathesis of olefins. The second objective will be to generate a new family of zwitterionic ligands to prepare homo- or heteroleptic ruthenium complexes whose biological activity will be evaluated. In parallel, complexes of other transition metals will also be synthesized and evaluated. The project involves a multidisciplinary team consisting of experienced researchers and young researchers who will train in this field of research. The scientific and technological developments obtained in this project resulting from the optimization of synthesis processes will be applied in the chemical industry.

Objectives

Synthesize and characterize transition metal complexes with new carbenic or zwitterionic ligands as well as evaluate their catalytic potential in olefin metathesis and in other carbon-carbon bond formation reactions.
Their biological activity as antioxidant, anticancer, antimicrobial or antifungal agents will also be tested. The first objective will consist in the synthesis of new carbenic ligands from azolium salts alkylated in the C2 position and their ruthenium-arene and ruthenium-alkylidene complexes whose catalytic activity will be evaluated in the metathesis of olefins. The second objective will be to generate a new family of zwitterionic ligands to prepare homo- or heteroleptic ruthenium complexes whose biological activity will be evaluated. In parallel, complexes of other transition metals will also be synthesized and evaluated.
